Pressure Related Injury From Bedpan And Incontinence
Description:
82 year old Caucasian female with fecal & urinary incontinence, admitted to acute care with pre existing maceration related to incontinence and pressure ulcers on the macerated tissue. While in Long Term Care, she was left on the bedpan for nearly a complete shift. Prolonged pressure on already weakened tissue resulted in necrotic ulcers. A Foley was inserted, and fecal incontinence was managed with no rinse cleanser & moisture barrier ointment, both with dimethicone. The wounds were not debrided because of the proximity to the anus. The ointment will provide a moist environment for autolytic debridement and healing. The patient was turned only side to side.
